China/Hainan: Tianya Haijiao aka End of Heaven
Tianya Haijiao is a picturesque sites of giant boulders scattered among the coastline of the South China Sea east of Sanya. It is also known as the End of Heaven, although I think some Chinese official screwed up with translation, and it should have been Edge of Heaven. The boulders somewhat resemble the Seychelles Beaches, but “somewhat” is a huge stretch here. This is considered the southernmost point of China and this draws massive crowds of busload Chinese tourists – everybody wants a selfie with the rocks (selfie taking is a whole new ballgame in China with costumes and industrial size tripods and posing and umbrellas, and so on – and they still don’t have Instagram or Facebook to post this on). Anyway, here was another attraction that I am most certainly never visiting again. Somewhere within the crowds of people it was where the Heaven Ended and Hell Began!
