China/Hainan: Yalong Bay
Yalong Bay is perhaps the number one attraction in Hainan – a beautiful curved bay of yellow sand that is 7.5km long, yet it’s quite empty and not crowded. Three types of tourists are here – Chinese in small number to look at the water without entering, Russians escaping Siberian cold, and Chinese wedding couples taking picture (worthy of a separate next post). Major luxury hotel chains are fronting the beach and many people probably just am stay at hotel pools without even coming to the beach. Bizarrely, there are no restaurants or food or even drinks anywhere along the beach.
