Comoros: Iconi
Iconi is one of the oldest settlements on the Grand Comore island and is chock full of attractions. First, there are thousand feet high cliffs that women jumped from to death not to get enslaved by the Malagasy pirates. Second, there are centuries old ruins of an old palace, built from coral limestone , standing enigmatically right on the beautiful black lava and white sand beach. Next, there is a white Friday mosque right behind the ruins (Comoros is a Muslim state with a strict interpretation of Islam under Sharia law). And finally a little further is a toxic lake where water are poisonous with volcanic gases.
