Czech Republic: Olomouc
Olomouc is one of the oldest towns in Czech Republic, it was originally a Roman outpost and then later on the capital of Moravia. The town is stunningly beautiful with so many historic building that you don’t know where to start and what to see first. In the center of town is the large square with the Holy Trinity Column – a 115 ft/35 m high gilded column built in the middle of 1700s to celebrate the end of the plaque (in fact many Czech cities have similar). The column earned Olomouc a UNESCO World Heritage listing. Other attractions include 11th century Wenceslas Cathedral, Olomouc Castle, St Maurice Church, St Michaels Church, and a baroque town hall. Interestingly, Olomouc used to be a fortified city and it repelled the Mongol siege (they eventually gave up and turned south and sacked Hungary).
