Egypt: Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan

Unfinished obelisk is…. well – unfinished. It is the largest known ancient obelisk or stella and is still lying in its quarry in the center of Aswan. It was ordered by Queen Hatshepsut for the Karnak Temple and is 1/3 larger that any other obelisk erected. It would have stood 42m/137ft high, weighing over 1200 tons. But its size doomed as the granite cracked before the cutting was complete. Still impressive to walk around this and think how they would have to transport it hundreds of miles south to Luxor.
