Egypt: Wadi es-Sebua (Valley of the Lions)
Wadi es-Sebua (also know as Valley of the Lions) is probably the most enigmatic of the Egyptian Temples. It’s way out of the way and totally off the beaten path – it lies on the remote shores of Lake Nasser miles away from any civilization with the Sahara sands slowly burying it again. It takes long hours getting here over roads covered with red sand with car getting stuck in it surrounding by incredible endless Saharan landscape. The temple is abandoned and hardly any tourists ever come here – which makes it that more incredible – rows of sphinx line up in the approach to the main temple. Beyond the temples – getting to the location required an Egyptian-style 4WD in an antique tractor navigating the shifting sands.
