El Salvador: Santa Ana

Santa Ana is usually on every El Salvador guide list as a must-see. But to be honest, besides the architecturally beautiful central square La Libertad, the second largest town town in the country looked beat up, dirty, and not particularly safe with a lot of drunk, high, and homeless sketchy characters. But once you get to the central square – there are three spectacular buildings: the white neogothic Cathedral of Santa Ana dating to 1575, ochre Municipal Palace, and green National Theater of Santa Ana. There are some good restaurants facing the square as well.
