Ethiopia: Simien Mountains NP – Walia Ibex at Chennek
Walia ibex is one of the rarest animals in the world, at one point less than 80 remained in the highland areas of the Simian Mountains. They don’t live anywhere else in the world. The population has recovered to about 400 now. The males have massive 1-meter/3-feet curved horns and black beards. Seeing the is not a guarantee, but we didn’t just get lucky – a group of eight ibex literally posed o the cliff within mere steps of the cameras, absolutely not concerned about humans. Want more? Two males even put up an edge-of-the-cliff horn fight!
