France: Amiens – Maison Jules Vernes
When I was little, I read almost everything by Jules Vernes, like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Around the World in Eighty Days. But the top two were Children of Captain Grant and the Mysterious Island – I remember imagining exploring the Argentinian pampa, the Australian Red middle, and the islands of the pacific myself one day…. Well, Jules Vernes lived and worked in Amiens and his house is now a museum. Some of his manuscripts and first books are here as well as his study room displaying the old world maps and geographic encyclopedias. And the top floor has several models of imaginary flying vehicles – long before the invention of an airplane!
