France: Versailles- Gardens of Versailles

Just like the Palace of Versailles is a symbol of French monarchy and opulent architecture, the Gardens of Versailles serve as a natural extension of the above and define the quintessential French gardens. The grounds are massive and sprawling for nearly kilometers outside the palace buildings. Some parts are open grounds with panoramic views and myriads of blooming flowers on meticulously manicured lawns, others are enclosed places with trees and fountains and sculptures. You can spend days roaming around here, especially if the fountains are working – 200k trees, 50 fountains with 620 water jets (still using the hydrolics built by Louis XIV). It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just like the palace is.
