France: Paris – Sacre Coeur Basilica

Basilique Sacré-Coeur in the Montmartre quarter of Paris is on the highest point in Paris and visible from afar. The snow-white alabaster of this catholic church contrasts with the surrounding grey buildings and seems almost out of place (it’s nicknamed “the wedding cake”). An esplanade leads up into the vaulted entrance and also offers panoramic views of the city below.
