The area north of Dortmund and up to Munster known as Munsterland has the highest concentration of typical moated castles in Germany, they all lol absolutely fairytale-like. Vischering Castle is one of the prime examples, with a perfect water-filled moat, drawbridge, thick walls, and slit windows. The exact construction date is unknown, although most likely it was the second half of the 12th century.
