Germany: Hannover
Hannover is the capital of the German state of Lower Saxony. It’s a large city with over 1mln population if you include the vicinity. The Old Town (Altstadt) is centered around the Marktplatz Square and the towering Marktkirche, or Market Church, from the 14th century, its single tower rising 97m high. Next to the church is the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) from the 15th century. Also starting here is the Kramerstrasse street, jam-packed with absolutely beautiful half-timbered houses – this is what old Hannover looked like! Also worth visiting are the New Town Hall and the Hannover Opera House.
