Germany: Paderborn

Paderborn is another medieval town in North Rhine-Westphalia with a very well-preserved historic core. It was actually founded in the 8th century by the First Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. The main attraction here is without a doubt a massive Paderborn Cathedral from the 13th century, with a massive high 93m single tower with both Romanesque and Gothic features. Also spectacular is the historic town-hall aka Rathaus, built in the Renaissance style in the 17th century.
