Germany: Imperial Cathedral and Old Town

Speyer is another small town but also one of the oldest in Germany. The town is dominated by the magnificent red-rock Kaiserdom or Imperial Cathedral dating back to the 1030. In fact, 8 German kings are buried here. The panorama from the top of the southern tower is breathless – you see the city’s main square and then there half a dozen more churches poking into the sky. The town is fantastic as well – laid back, small, atmospheric, with cafés along the main street with every seat getting a view of the Cathedral basking in the sun
