Ghana: Cape Coast – Cape Coast Castle
Cape Coast Castle is the most famous of the Gold Coast Castle in Kenya. The massive fortified complex was built originally by Swedish to trade gold but then became one of the largest slave trading outposts in the West Africa. Thousands of slaves were held in horrible conditions in the basements of the castle to be shipped to the New World. The castle has almost all its armor and gun stations preserved in perfect condition – several dozen canons with thousands of cannonballs. The coastline beneath the castle is full of traditional fishing boats and fisherman cleaning their nets.
