Gough Island: Gough Finches

While normal people delight in the incredible land scapes of the remote Gough Island, the massive subantarctic fur seal colonies, and the spectacular northern Rockhopper penguins, the hardcore birders want nothing more then to spot a tiny little endemic bird – Gough Finch. Gough Finch is found only on Gough Island and nowhere else in the world. It’s small brown-yellow bird the size of a sparrow, and completely and utterly unremarkable in every possible aspect (and it was almost completely decimated by mice in Gough). While zodiac cruising the shores of the island, we spotted quite a few of them in the beaches and rocks (to the near-orgasmic delight of the hardcore birders with their massive camera guns).
