Guatemala: Antigua

Antigua was the colonial capital of Spain with all the wealth put into elaborate palaces and churches. Until a massive earthquake destroyed it all and the capital was moved to Guatemala City. Antigua was to be abandoned but people returned and rebuilt it little by little. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site for its baroque architecture and colonial ruins. It’s a beautiful town with old buildings, a grid of cobblestone streets, tons of gourmet restaurants, coffee shops and bars. And junk cars and colorful buses!
