Guinea: Conakry – More City Scenes

There isn’t much to see in Conakry except a couple religious buildings and monuments. It’s a mess of dusty and chaotic streets. Kind of like the country’s history actually. Inference from France wasn’t smooth in 1958 and a lot of bridges with the old colonial master of France were burned. Guinea aligned itself with the Soviet Union and went on an a string of coups, one bloodier then the other. There were nationalizations, referendums to extend dictatorship terms, insane inflation and overall quagmire. Finally in 2010, Guinea had free elections. Not much changed. In 2021, another quick coup took place, local people didn’t even notice it, and another young military guy seized power. Today, his photos are plastered all over Conakry.
