Iceland: Viti Crater & Krafla Power Station
Askja volcanic caldera is a large geothermal area in northern Iceland near Lake Myvatn. There are a lot of cool geothermal volcanic features here – like the ultra blue Lake Viti caldera. Also here is the largest geothermal power plant in Iceland – Krafla Power Station. It has 33 boreholes that released high pressure steam from deep down, that rotate the turbines and generate energy (free energy!). It is considered to be Iceland’s largest power station and it is able to produce 500 GW of electricity (but only 60 MW are currently being produced) – insanely huge potential!
