India: Agra – Baby Taj aka Itmad-au-Daulah Tomb
This tomb was built nearly a decade before Taj Mahal and in considered to have inspired the latter. While Taj Mahal was grand and impressive and overwhelming, the much smaller Baby Taj was absolutely amazing in its beauty. It is much more delicate and intricate in its architecture and design then its bigger relative – every single wall is made out of white marble encrusted with various types of sandstone and precious and semiprecious stones, earning the Baby Taj the nickname of a “jewel box”. It’s surreally stunning in its intricacy and decorations – there are geometric shapes, flowers, vases, fruits, wine bottles and so on and so forth. Personally, I’d come back to see Baby Taj again over and over before the tourist-trap of Taj Mahal.
