Japan/Hokkaido: Cape Kamui & Shakotan Peninsula

The most westerly point of Hokkaido is the beautiful Shakotan Peninsula and Cape Kamui (both part of a National Park). The rugged cape protrudes out into the azure sea and a white lighthouse stands last at the very tip, with several smaller islets below. The entire coastal panorama of cliffs and seastacks opens in both directions along the coast. It’s on of the most photographed natural attractions in Hokkaido. A staircase trail leads all the way to the observation platform near the lighthouse with some of the most stunning seascape views of the Sea of Japan imaginable. Finally, Hokkaido delivers on expectations!
