Jersey: Mont Orgueil Castle
Mont Orgueil is the older castle on Jersey, sitting on the mountaintop in the east coast, built in 1212. The invention of cannons and gunpowder rendered the castle obsolete and indefensible later on, but for many centuries this was the primary defensive fortification on Jersey. The castle requires climbing multitude of steps before you get to the top with fantastic views over the sea and inland’s harbor.
