Jordan: Aqaba – Aqaba Castle
Aqaba Castle is a partially ruined Mamluk Ottoman fortress on the coast of the Red Sea in the heart of the city of Aqaba. The fortress was built in the 16th century as a caravanserai in the middle of the pilgrimage route to Mecca and Medina. The fortress itself was built on the spot where an old crusader-built fortress once stood.
