Kenya: Samburu NP – Elephants River Crossing
Sumburu National Park is famous for its elephants – large groups roam the desert landscape and often come to the river at the hottest part of the day for a complete spa treatment: river showers by hosing themselves with water, mud baths by rolling in red clay mud, skin treatment by rubbing themselves against trees and getting the ticks out, and finally powder session by dusting their wet bodies with a generous layer of fine sand. Refreshed and rejuvenated, the elephants are ready for a day’s meal of bushes and grass. Tiny baby elephant emulate their parents in the daily routine. © All photos by Rus Margolin.
