Kenya: Samburu NP – Somali Ostrich

Somali ostrich is a rare and most distinct species of ostrich and is geographically confined to the Horn of Africa. It faces near complete eradication in Somalia and survives in small numbers in northern Kenya and eastern Ethiopia. These ostriches have blue legs (especially males when mating) and white tails. Females are mostly monotonously grey, while males are brightly black and white with blue legs. Somali ostrich doesn’t interbreed with other species even in overlapping ranges.
