Kiritimati: Motu Ngaontetaake

Motu Ngaontetaake is another islet of the Kiritimati Lagoon, but this one lies deep inside the lagoon and salt flats and is very different in appearance – it is very dry, somewhat devoid of vegetation, and its teaming with birds. It is one of the three fully protected islets that are important nesting grounds for seabirds. Unlike the other two protected islands, this one has three different species nesting – lots of red-footed boobies, greater frigatebirds, and red-tailed tropicbirds. All three are large birds and you can approach and see them insanely up close and personal, probably like no other place on earth.
