Lebanon: Tyre – Al Mina Archaeological Site

The second archaeological site in Tyre is Al Mina – an atmospheric site on the waterfront. This was the ancient Phoenetian, then Greek, then Roman reading outpost, perhaps founded as far back as 800 BC. The highlights include a large street full of mosaics and surrounded with rows of columns, a 2nd century Roman bathhouse and a 4th century Roman arena. The site sits right on the waterfront with great views of the city of Tyre on one side. Some parts of the ancient town is actually now submerged and under the Mediterranean Sea.
