Luxembourg: Bourscheid Castle

You want an absolutely perfect Disney-like castle? Well, Bourscheid Castle more then fits the bill. It’s a stunning fortification standing on a high hill 500 feet above the Sure river and green mountains and forests as far as the eye can see. It was founded in the 11th century and then reinforced and modified in the 13-15th centuries. And it’s a total stunner of construction – 11 watchtowers all connected with thick wall and making a rough circle around the central keep where several castle-like buildings are located. And I also had the entire castle strangely to myself – it’s a bit off the beaten path despite being smack on the middle of Western Europe.
