Madagascar: Ring-tailed lemurs at Anja Reserve

Ring-tailed lemurs are spectacular and fun to watch, they come down really close to you, and then hop up the trees with agility and speed. It’s most definitely the most recognized lemur for its striped tail and black “sunglasses”. Locally called “maky”, these lemurs form family groups of 20-30 individuals and forage by day only for fruits and nuts. At Anja Reserve, you can watch them real close for hours. From Wiki: “Experiments have shown that the ring-tailed lemur, despite the lack of a large brain (relative to simiiform primates), can organize sequences, understand basic arithmetic operations and preferentially select tools based on functional qualities.” They huddle together when cold and sun themselves on top branches when hot.
