Mexico/Baja Sur: Isla Coronado – Sea Lion Colony
Isla Coronado hosts the second largest colony of California sea lions in the Gulf of California. This species of eared seals can be found as far north as Alaska and all along the Oregon and California coasts and Baja peninsula, and unlike earless seals, California sea lions have large flippers they use to walk on land. The California sea lions are very playful and inquisitive (and also very loud) and are considered to be the most intelligent of all the sea lion species and they are the seal most often doing tricks in the zoos and shows.
