Mexico/Baja Sur: Ojo de Liebre Lagoon – Breaching Whales
Nobody knows exactly why whales breach and you seem to never have the camera ready to catch this moment. Humpbacks are known for breaching as they have the largest pectoral fins. Grey whales are less common to breach, but here in Baja it was a nonstop jumping party – whale after whale propelling themselves out of the water, with almost their entire body in the air, and then dropping like a megaton bomb (literally!) down with a massive splash. 1-3 breaching jumps are usually the norm, but we witnesses one whale go nuts and jump 7 times in a row! Nobody knows why exactly whales breach, it is considered a form of communication between them.
