Mexico/Mexico City: Mexico City – Plaza de la Constitución & Around

The heart of the city is the Plaza de la Constitución square with the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Templo Mayor. All around it, is the core of the old town with grid street full of old colonial buildings, churches, and temples. Right next to the Cathedral are ruins of the ancient Templo Mayor, east is Plaza Mayor with more churches and busy market streets, Palacio Nacional takes a entire block, and there are probably over a dozen museums in this area – from art to torture and beyond. The Centro Histórico de la Ciudad, a 15-square-kilometer area, is a UNESCO World Heritage site containing more than 1,400 important historic buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries.
