Mexico/Michoacan: Colola Beach
Colola is a beautiful yellow sand beach in the middle of the Costa Michoacána – wide beach with soft yellow sand, rough ocean waves pounding the shore. Everything here is miles away from civilization – no hotels and no restaurants (we stayed in very basic thatched cabanas without hot water, broken doors, and occasional bed bugs for under $20 and the dinner consisted of pineapple and guavas bought from a street vendor and a plastic bottle of some alcohol bought in a tiny store in the village nearby for under $4. But the sunset and panoramas were all worth it. Plus the beach is frequented by sea turtles and the tracks and nest holes were everywhere.
