Moldova: Chisinau – Metropolitan Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Moldovan Orthodox Church is the centerpiece of Chisinau. It was built in 1830 on the order of Prince Vorontsov, then the governor of New Russia. Partially destroyed in WW2, it was fully restored and the bell tower rebuilt in 1997. The interior, originally blank, is now painted with orthodox religious themes. The cathedral is next to the Triumph Arch right in the heart of Chisinau.
