Monaco: Oceanographic Museum
Oceanographic Museum is one of the top attractions in Monaco (once you gambled your money away and watched Formula 1). The museum was founded and funded by Monaco’s Prince Albert I in 1910. It’s more than just an aquarium, it’s a museum of ocean exploration – past, present, and future. The aquarium occupies the basement, and although it’s not the most impressive as far as aquariums go, the collection is quite unique and interesting, focused on the Mediterranean fauna. The first floor is dedicated to science and among other exhibits features Prince Albert’s research yacht. Finally, the building of the museum is grand on its own nearly hanging over an open ocean.
