Mongolia: Aryabal Buddhist Meditation Temple
The temple is set in an absolutely spectacular place in the Gorkhi-Terejl National Park – midway against a mountain with the sharp peaks as the background and colorful forested cliffs all around. This is a rather new temple, built since 1990s when the country returned to Buddhism after years of communist suppression. The way to the temple goes through 128 billboards with Buddhist teachings and various other stupas and monuments. Then you climb up the steep stairs to the temple itself – panoramic stunning views in every direction. The temple is done in a colorful Tibetan style with some rather bizarre gut-wrenching torture paintings on the walls and ceilings (that the monks are eager to point out).
