Mongolia: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake
The other must see of the Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park is of course the eponymous lake – Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur (which means Great White Lake. It’s the second biggest lake in Mongolia, stretching for 16km and is a true natural jewel of the country (2 full days drive worth from Ulaanbaatar). Several tourist ger camps dot the beautiful coast with views across the lake toward towering hills. Hiking the shoreline is superb, swimming is a bit cold (you are above 7000 feet here), and fishing is a must (although somehow I didn’t catch anything). But the stunning sunset made up for the lack of fish
