Myanmar: Bagan – Shwesandaw Pagoda at Sunset
When it comes to sunset watching, it seems the entire tourist population of Bagan gathers at the Shwesandaw Pagoda and its four levels to watch the sun slowly go down behind the Bagan plain and the Ayeyrwaddy River. It’s one of the oldest pagodas in Bagan, built by King Anawrahta in 1057. It’s a bit of a zoo scene and people are packed like sardines on the top levels of the pagoda while crowds of more tourists are still going up (it’s like a scene from 300 Spartans). The mess aside, the sunset is indeed beautiful.
