Myanmar: Mandalay – Mahamuni Buddha Temple

According to the legend only five images of Buddha were cast during his lifetime – two in India, two in paradise, and one in Myanmar. This sacred Buddha, Mahamuni Buddha, was cast in 555BC, is kept in the Mahamuni and is one of the main pilgrimage sites in the country. Only men are allowed to approach the podium with the statues and wrap tiny squares of the gold leaf on the Buddha.
