Myanmar: Mandalay – Mandalay Royal Palace

Mandalay was the location of the last royal palace of the last monarchy in Myanmar. Built in late 19th century, it sits on a square 2x2km surrounded by a moat and high wall with sentinel towers. In the very middle of it is a series of wooden palace buildings. The palace was captured by British troops in 1885. It was occupied by Japanese in WWII and then completely destroyed by allied bombing. The palace was completely rebuilt in 1990 (like pretty much anything else in Myanmar, the country is bent of restoring every temple, palace, and pagoda).
