Myanmar: Myanmar Food Recap
Myanmar has a reputation of having oily food, and that’s mostly because IT IS. Everything is swimming in oil and the food is generally not spicy unlike the neighboring Thailand. In the morning, people mostly eat mohinga (fish based broth with lemongrass, coriander, chick peas and duck egg). Lunch & dinner almost invariably consists of oil-rich curry and loads of side dishes ranging from pickled mango to bitter weeds to weird mushrooms. A lot of food is deep fried in oil. A national dish that was truly spectacular was the tea leaf salad – a very hearty concoction of tea leafs with nuts and rice – a huge caffeine kick!
