Myanmar: Yangon – Kaba Aye Pagoda
Kaba Aye Pagoda aka World Peace Pagoda is another famous pagoda in Yangon. Built in 1956, the pagoda is 111 ft (34 m) high and is also 111 ft (34 m) in circumference of the base. The pagoda was built for the 2500-year anniversary of Buddha’s enlightenment. Inside, it’s very richly decorated in reds and gold and entrance look like mini-caves. The pagoda was named “World Peace” with the goal of promoting peace and unity in Burma and beyond. Coincidentally, the pagoda was the site of double bombing, supposedly by student groups protesting the junta regime. The student groups denied responsibility but the bombing was followed by a severe crackdown.
