Myanmar: Yangon – Swe Taw Myat Pagoda

Yet another spectacular golden pagoda in Yangon – Swe Taw Myat Pagoda aka Buddha Tooth Relic Pagoda. It houses a tooth that is supposedly from the mouth of Buddha. Swe Taw Myat Pagoda designed in the shape of an octagonal castle with the top embellished with pure gold, a design more characteristic of ancient Bagan than Yangon. The pagoda is relatively new, finished in 2002, but given the relic inside it is considered and revered as sacred. Actually the central stupa itself is designed to resemble a tooth. The doorways and stairs are adorned with lions and dragons.
