Nauru: Seabirds on Nauru

The island is so small that there is hardly any variety of birds on the island. The birds played a prominent role in Nauru’s history though – it was the birds that deposited massive amounts of guano in the middle of the island that later turned into pure phosphate. The most common birds now are grey noddies and white turns, quite plentiful in the trees all around. Also spotted were great fregatebirds, white-tailed tropicbirds, Pacific grey herons, and bar-tailed godwits.
