New Zealand: Arthur’s Pass National Park

Arthur’s Pass National Park is one of the first three national parks in New Zealand. Located in the heart of the South Island, it is centered around a high elevation mountain pass through high ridge that runs along the island’s spine. While the Arthur’s Pass itself is relatively not high at only 920 m / 3020 ft, the flora and fauna here resembles high alpine zones of European Alps or Rocky Mountains in North America. Hiking trails lead along alpine streams, wildflowers, and towering snow-covered mountains.
