New Zealand: Castle Hill Conservation Area
Castle Hill Conservation Area aka Kura Tāwhiti is an absolutely spectacular area of boulders and limestone outcrops seemingly completely out of place on a plane surrounded by snowy mountain and green pastures. Geologically, these are made from tertiary limestone, mudstone, sandstone and tuffs – sediments deposited at the bottom of ancient oceans that eventually got uplifted. The Chronicles of Narnia were filmed here. Oh, and check out the humongous bulls lying in the meadows along the path.
