New Zealand: Coromandel – Waiau Kauri Grove
Kauri tree (Agathis australis) is a coniferous tree endemic to northern New Zealand and the Pacific. Kauri are the largest trees in the country, rising up to 50 m / 165 feet. Kauri are some of the most ancient trees in the world, having not changed much since the Jurassic period of 190 million years ago. At Waiau Kauri Grove, you get to hike among a highly concentrated dense grove of these trees and stare up at their massive trunks.
