New Zealand: Waitomo – Ruakuri Cave & Aranui Cave

Waitomo is famous for its spectacular caves and glowworms. Both Ruakuri Cave and Aranui Cave have spectacular cave formations of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, flowstone, and cave bacon, as well some more rare speleothems and even glowworms hanging on the ceiling. The Ruakuri cave also has some fossilized shells imprinted in the walls from prehistoric times. The most interesting cave is of course the Waitomo Glowworm Cave where you travel by boat underneath the ceiling literally covered with glowworms like a milky-way sky on a clear night (no photography allowed unfortunately).
