North Korea: Pyongyang Metro

Pyongyang, like Moscow, has a lavishly decorated subway – full of marble, heroic mosaics, portraits and statues of the great leaders, and crystal chandeliers. It was fun riding 6 stations deep underneath Pyongyang (in fact it is supposedly the deepest subway in the world also serving as a potential bomb shelter). Every station has newspaper stands with Pyongyang Times in the middle of the platform where Koreans get their daily dose of latest news (all the apple orchards that Kim John Un visited lately and the updates on the imperialist lies and dirty plots by the USA). But ultimately, the best experience was just people watching and also being curiously watched back (hardly any foreign tourists ride the Pyongyang metro).
